Elvis Manu's Albion future is still up in the air with days of the transfer window remaining.

But he has given boss Chris Hughton food for thought with his goalscoring performances in the League Cup.

The enigmatic Dutch attacker spent part of a nightmare debut season with the Seagulls on loan at Huddersfield.

He was linked with Turkish clubs and MK Dons earlier this month but the former Feyenoord flyer's fortunes have improved in the League Cup with another goal at Oxford United on Tuesday to add to his first for Albion in the first round against Colchester.

Whether Manu will still be in the blue and white stripes next Thursday once the window has shut is unclear.

Hughton told The Argus: "I don't know. It's down to what the options are. If he stays then I'm delighted he has improved.

"We probably don't have that type of player. We've got Sam (Baldock) that can run in behind with pace but Elvis is a little bit unorthodox, a little bit awkward to play against."

Manu persistently troubled the Oxford defence. Their goalkeeper Simon Eastwood denied him several times before he eventually got on the scoresheet again.

"I thought he was excellent in his application," said Hughton.

"Sometimes he goes down a bit easily, which agitated a few of their supporters, but he was a threat up front with his pace and power.

"The only slight on his performance was he probably should have scored three goals but he's a handful.

"He gives us a real threat in behind and I'm pleased for him, because it's been a tough year for him.

"At the moment he's certainly improved from where he was last season."
