Crawley have challenged ex-Albion defender Danny Pappoe to prove he is hungry for success.

The giant centre-back is on trial with Reds and could feature in their final friendly at Aldershot tomorrow.

Pappoe played for Chelsea’s youth set-up under Reds head coach Dermot Drummy before moving on to join the Seagulls’ development squad.

He has since had a stint at Hemel Hempstead before linking up with Reds to play in their midweek win at Lewes.

Drummy said: “Danny will train with us for a period of time. I am taking a long, hard look at him. I’m pleased with what he did at Lewes in terms of his tactical work and his aerial ability.

“I know what he can do. I just want to see if there is that hunger to be the best.”

Pappoe never got close to Championship football with the Seagulls but Drummy reckons he has Football League potential.

He added: “I think he could possibly play at League Two level but you have got to be super-fit and have the right mentality. If you do all that, you never know where you can get.”

Former Liverpool midfielder Yaleny Baio, also on trial, is still being considered but Reds will not be signing centre-back Dieumera Vua.

Crawley’s line-up at Aldershot will be close to that which kicks off the League Two season against Wycombe a week on Saturday.

Jason Banton has a minor injury and could miss the run-out in Hampshire.

Reds will have a final run-through before the new season behind closed doors midway through next week.

There is every chance they will complete loan deals before the opening day, both in and out.
