Chris Eubank junior today hit back at Nick Blackwell’s criticism and claims his rival was just venting his anger after he ended his career.

And the Brighton fighter has revealed he is willing to hand over the British middleweight title belt as a goodwill gesture.

Blackwell yesterday launched a scathing attack on the Eubanks in a national paper and on television for their conduct in the aftermath of the March title defeat which left him in a coma.

The 25-year-old, who has since retired, was found to have suffered a bleed on the skull but woke after a week without requiring an operation.

The Trowbridge fighter accused the Eubanks of “disgusting and inhuman” conduct while he was fighting for his life.

But Eubank Jr, 26, who told The Argus he had hoped to visit Blackwell in hospital after the fight, admitted he was surprised by the comments.

Eubank Jr said: “I was shocked when I first heard the things he'd been saying because we'd have a talk on social media and he said everything was okay and there were no hard feelings.

"But the truth is, I've ended the guy's career and I've stopped him from making a living.”

He added: "It's serious and obviously, was it intentional, no, did I want this to happen, of course not. But I can understand where this anger for me and dislike comes from.”

Eubank Jr posted a social media message to Blackwell after the fight while he was in hospital in which he said he had a ‘gift’ for him. Today he offered to deliver on the gift.

Eubank Jr said: “His career's over now so as a gesture I was prepared to go to the hospital and give him the belt.”

“I believe the belt is a goodwill gesture, I'm still ready to come and give it to him.”
