Steve Sidwell fired the late goal which kept Albion in the thick of the promotion race tonight.

The midfielder struck after good work by fellow substitute Anthony Knockaert to secure a hard-fought 2-1 win at spirited Nottingham Forest.

His goal came just as the board was going up for added time.

Albion barely deserved their win – but they enjoyed their celebrations in front of away fans at the end and justifiably so.

The Seagulls had pressure heaped on them by wins for Burnley and Middlesbrough at the weekend and responded.

It looked like they would have to settle for a point, which was arguably the most they deserved.

Then Knockeart bundled his way past challenges into the box and Sidwell finished.

The Argus:

Albion had looked well set as Lewis Dunk headed home a Jiri Skalak free-kick – though the ball seemed to take a touch off Danny Fox (pictured above).

Forest levelled in similar style five minutes after the break as Henri Lansbury’s free-kick was glanced in by the head of Dexter Blackstock.

Forest looked the more urgent side and Lansbury wasted a great chance to put them ahead as he blazed over.

But Sidwell, sent on to give fresh legs in midfield rather than for his goalscoring potential, found time to get forward – and the scenes will live in the memory.
