Colin Calderwood admitted Albion were given a real test by lowly Bolton.
But he savoured a 3-2 win at the Amex – and highlighted a key save by David Stockdale from Liam Feeney at 2-2.
Albion’s assistant boss said: “We found a difficult opponent to put away.
“Maybe we should have done that slightly earlier, slightly better, increased the lead, but they never went away.
“We scored early. It's trying to keep that power up and put them under threat.
“We had to deliver a better defensive performance as a group in the second half. It didn't stop them equalising, I know that, but we broke a little bit better more often.
“The advantage we had was never being behind in the game. And we are indebted to David Stockdale, who made a super save at two each.”
