Albion manager Chris Hughton has defended fringe striker Elvis Manu following his outburst against the club.

Manu told a Dutch newspaper he is in an unhappy marriage and had made the wrong choice signing for the Seagulls before joining Huddersfield on loan for the rest of the season.

Hughton told The Argus: “I didn’t see the interview. He’s a really good lad. It must have been frustrating for him, having come from Feyenoord where he played reasonably regularly and scored goals.

“He trained very well here. I had lots of good conversations with him and he never caused me a problem. He could not have conducted himself any better.

“My gut feeling would be that he maybe spoke about his frustrations but that’s normal. I certainly wouldn’t think bad of the lad, as somebody who would be disruptive.”

Manu could make his second appearance for Huddersfield at Nottingham Forest on Saturday against Albion striker Chris O’Grady.

Season-long loanee O’Grady, who has scored two goals in 17 league appearances, was not involved in Forest’s 1-0 win at Leeds at the weekend.
