NICK WEBB has been getting in some serious sparring with Del Boy ahead of his Brighton fight night.

The unbeaten heavyweight has been travelling up to London with Brighton’s former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Scott Welch for sessions with Dereck ‘Del Boy’ Chisora.

Hove-based Webb has not lost a fight since turning professional and none of his opponents have seen out a round.

But he is getting valuable experience by getting in the ring with the former British and Commonwealth champion Chisora, whose five defeats in 30 fights have come against Vitali Klitschko for the WBC world heavyweight title, David Haye, Robert Helenius and Tyson Fury (twice).

Welch makes no bones about the fact he is taking on opponents early on he should put away as he builds his career and ratings.

He is already rated 14 in the British heavyweight rankings on Boxrec.com and is eager to keep busy after parting company with promoter Frank Warren in search of more opportunities to fight.

Chisora is preparing to fight Kubrat Pulev for the vacant EBU heavyweight title on a Sauerland show after negotiations for a showdown with Anthony Joshua failed to come to anything.

Former 2012 ABA Novices champion Webb will fight next Friday at the Metropole Hotel, Brighton, and is relishing a chance to show some of the skills he has sharpened against Chisora.

Webb said: “I have had great sparring with Dereck getting ready for the fight. And I am learning more and more all the time.”

Welch said: “Nick had seven rounds with Chisora last week and we have been up this week to do another six. We have got all those in the bank which is great for Nick.

“We have another opponent and we are trying to go the Anthony Joshua route. It’s about testing him now and seeing how he copes with what we put in front of him.

“If he wins quickly, then good, but if it goes six rounds then it does not matter. He’s learning and will keep getting better.”

Crawley’s Ben Jones has been living the high life in the build up to his next fight.

The WBO Inter-Continental featherweight champion fights on February 27 at the York Hall as he builds towards a first title defence in April.

And he has just returned from time abroad working on his fitness.

Jones, 33, said: “I have been to France with a runner, Paul Rodgers, and one of my old former Crawley Boxing Club mates Scott James.

“It was great fitness work as it was at altitude and having Paul there really pushes me along as I have to try to keep up with him.

“We did a bit of snowboarding as well, which is the part I probably shouldn’t do, but it was a great time.”

Rodgers, a former Crawley runner, was second in the Reigate Half Marathon last year, and at the Crawley 5,000m Championships.

Jones’ appearance on the Mickey Helliet show will be his first outing since beating Martin Parlagi by unanimous points decision in October last year.

Jones has targeted a re-match with IBF world featherweight champion Lee Selby but expects to defend his title in April. No opponent has been confirmed for the York Hall show yet.
