Lewes Ladies have been tipped to overcome an injury crisis at the back.

The Rookettes have conceded ten goals in their last two games after defenders Rebecca Thompson-Agbro, Charlie Carter and Chloe Howe all picked up long-term injuries.

Tottenham Hotspur took full advantage of the disruption as they romped to a 5-1 victory over Lewes in the League Cup last Sunday, Paige Walder grabbing the consolation goal, which followed the 5-0 thumping at Cardiff City the previous weekend.

Lewes face Spurs again at the Dripping Pan this Sunday with boss John Donaghue confident they can gain immediate revenge.

Donaghue said: “At the start of the season I had six first choice defenders and now I’m down to just three.

“Rebecca is having surgery on a ruptured Achilles today, Charlie has damaged ankle ligaments so is likely to be out for a while and Chloe has broken a toe. It is a blow but I still have confidence in the players in defence.

“We might have conceded five against Spurs but we have addressed what happened and know we can easily rectify the situation. We played Spurs at the end of last season and drew 1-1 so we know we are capable of getting a result.”
