YOUNG striker Daniel Akindayini was happy to join Albion – because they play a similar style to Tottenham.

The 19-year-old has signed a development squad contract with the Seagulls after being released by Spurs.

He played two games on trial for Albion’s under-21 squad at the end of last season, against Arsenal and Aston Villa.

London-born Akindayini was top scorer for Tottenham’s under-18s in 2013-14 and a regular with their under-21 side last season.

He said: “I’m really happy to sign because it’s a great club. Having left Tottenham, it would have been quite difficult to find a club that has a similar style but I believe Brighton do.

“I’m pleased that I have found a club which suits the way I play and hopefully I can go on to do good things here.

“I believe I am a striker that can play in between defenders and behind so I am a big threat and hopefully I can show that this year.

“I’m someone who can play on the floor and likes to do a bit of passing and break defences so that’s a big bonus at the moment.”

Akindayini is the second player to join the club’s development squad this summer following the arrival of Joe Ward from Chelmsford City last month.

He impressed sufficiently in his trial matches at the end of the season and admits it helped by playing alongside some familiar faces.

The teenager said: “I got told after the second game I played so it was a big relief and I was pleased.

“I’ve played against Jesse Starkey because he was at Chelsea and so was Chike.

“I played against them when I was younger so it was easy for me to settle in and find way to play alongside them.

“Everyone wants to play in the first team so that was a big bonus that the gaffer gives chances and if I do well for the under-21s I can get that chance and prove my ability.”

Meanwhile, Iran winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh will not do a U-turn and sign for Albion, according to his agent.

The Seagulls have been in contact with his representative, Amir Hashemi, since Jahanbakhsh rejected a £1.4 million move from Dutch club NEC Nijmegen.

Hashemi told The Argus: "There has been contact again. Ali was really impressed by Brighton and the manager but it's not the right moment for him. It will definitely not happen. Ali has not changed his mind. He will not go there.

"There are some clubs interested in him but we don't have an offer yet. I think Ali will stay in the Netherlands."
