ALBION goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts has revealed he is a fan of regular No.1 David Stockdale.

The Seagulls are still in the process of recruiting fresh competition for Stockdale so that England under-20s prospect Christian Walton can gain more experience out on loan.

Casper Ankergren remains with the Seagulls as well and Roberts is happy with the pool of goalkeepers he has inherited after rejoining the club from Championship rivals Charlton.

Roberts told The Argus: "He (Stockdale) was at Darlington when I was in the North East for a few years. I've followed his career for a long time and he's a goalkeeper I have always rated.

"I am looking forward to working with him. It's the same with the other two. I've seen Casper for a lot of years, both with Leeds and Brighton. I've heard really good things about him and then Christian has developed a lot since he came from Plymouth, both with Brighton and playing for England.

"He is a really exciting prospect moving forward."

Roberts, who played for Albion in 2002-03 and 2003-04 when they were promoted from League One via the play-offs, says it was a simple choice to return to the club once he was aware of their interest.

"I'd made a decision I was going to leave Charlton but maybe just to take some time out," said the 40-year-old. "Once I knew Brighton wanted me it was straightforward.

"It happened really quickly. It was a no-brainer."

Albion hope to make at least one and possibly two more signings in time for next week's pre-season training camp in the French Alps after capturing versatile full-back Liam Rosenior on a free transfer from Hull and Israeli international No.9 Tomer Hemed from Spanish club Almeria for an undisclosed seven-figure fee.
