Sussex could be in hot water with the ECB after wickets continued to tumble on the second day of their Championship clash with Warwickshire.
The ECB’s cricket liaison officer Tony Pigott was at Hove to witness 12 wickets fall yesterday while both Chris Wright and Tim Ambrose were struck on the head.
Former Sussex wicketkeeper Ambrose described the wicket as “nigh on impossible” to bat on with umpires Russell Evans and Michael Gough expected to be highly critical in their report.
The wicket for the last game against Middlesex was rated as ‘below average’ and if the umpires describe it as ‘poor’ then the pitch will be reported to the ECB by Pigott, although a points deduction seems unlikely.
Warwickshire reached 180-7 in their second innings when bad light stopped play to lead by 169 after Luke Wells had made 92 in Sussex’s first innings total of 191.
