Ollie Robinson has targeted a lead of at least 50 for Sussex after his landmark performance with the ball.

The county’s inspired recent signing took best-ever first-class figures of 6-33 as they bowled out Warwickshire for 180 in the County Championship.

Sussex go into the second day at Hove 40 runs adrift with five wickets in hand and eyeing a significant first-innings advantage.

Robinson said: “We have got three genuine batsmen left in Wellsy (Luke Wells), Browny (Ben Brown) and CJ (Chris Jordan) and I’ll try and hold the stick a bit.

“If we can get a lead of 50 to 100, that’s a good lead on this wicket.”

Opener Wells holds the key for Sussex, having reached 73 not out overnight on a day when no one else on either side passed 35.

Robinson added: “He batted outstandingly well. He gutsed it out at the start and, when he got the bad ball, he put it away.

“He looked really good. He has been out of the side for a few weeks, came back in and looked like he had never been away.”

Mike Yardy is sitting out the current fixture. A calf problem suffered in the T20 at Taunton last Friday has added his name to the county’s growing injury list.
