Albion boss Chris Hughton expects Rotherham to be docked three points for fielding an ineligible player against his team.

The Seagulls faced on-loan Farrend Rawson in their 1-0 defeat at Rotherham on Easter Monday when the 18-year-old Derby defender’s youth loan had expired and re-signing him had not been sanctioned by the Football League.

In previous cases clubs have been deducted three points for fielding an ineligible player in a game they have won.

Hughton told The Argus: “If that charge is correct and they are found guilty what should happen is what’s happened in the past and what the rules are.

“I think it has happened once already this season, to Blackpool, so I’m quite sure that they’ll look upon it the same way.”

Blackpool were fined after fielding an ineligible player when they were beaten by Millwall in November.

Hughton said: “I think that’s probably because they lost the game.”

Rotherham were held 1-1 at Fulham last night, a result which keeps both teams below Albion.
