Loan raider Craig Mackail-Smith insists he still sees his future at the Amex.

But the Albion striker would love to complete a century for Peterborough tonight after rejoining them for a month.

Mackail-Smith starts his second stint at Posh with a six-pointer at home to League One leaders Bristol City.

He is currently on 99 goals for the club and resumes his successful partnership with Aaron Mclean, who is on loan from Bradford.

But he remains ambitious to star with the Seagulls.

Mackail-Smith said: “I had decided I needed to go out on loan as I need games and I wasn’t likely to get that at Brighton as they signed another striker (Darren Bent).

“I’m here for a month initially and I haven’t thought beyond that. At the moment I want to get some minutes on the pitch, which will then help me get into the Brighton team.

“I still want to play in the Championship but before then I want to help get Peterborough back on a roll.”

Millwall, Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton were reported to be interested in Mackail-Smith.

But he said: “The club wouldn’t allow me to go the Championship, which is understandable.”

Fellow striker Chris O’Grady also left Albion before the loan window closed yesterday while Elliott Bennett extended his deal with the Seagulls into a second month.

O’Grady joined Sheffield United initially until January 31 but Blades boss Nigel Clough could look to extend that arrangement.

Clough said: “Chris was a target for us in the summer but Brighton came in with a deal we simply couldn’t match in terms of wages and what they could have been potentially offering him as a playing challenge.

“Talks of a permanent move haven’t taken place. Hopefully we will extend it until the end of the season come January and then re-assess in the summer.”

Nottingham-born O’Grady could make his debut against play-off rivals Notts County tonight.

Bennett’s loan from Norwich City was due to expire after tomorrow’s game against Fulham but he is now on board for the December programme.

Canaries boss Neil Adams insists he still expects the winger’s future to lie at Carrow Road.
