Albion remain two points clear of the Championship drop zone - until tomorrow afternoon at least.
The Seagulls would have slipped into the bottom three had Bolton won at Norwich tonight.
But a pair of Cameron Jerome goals gave the Canaries a 2-1 win and sent them level on points with leaders Derby.
Jerome combined neatly with Jonny Howson for the 12th-minute opener.
He extended the lead on 61 minutes with a header as Norwich dominated.
But Lee Chung-yong pulled one back for Neil Lennon's men in the closing stages and they then piled men forward.
Birmingham have the next chance to nudge Albion into the bottom three.
They will do so if they win the early kick-off tomorrow away to Wolves.
