Sussex have won the race to sign pace bowler Tymal Mills.

The 22-year-old has penned a two-year deal at Hove after turning down offers from Lancashire and Worcestershire.

Mills is widely regarded as the fastest bowler in England and was part of the England Lions squad which toured Sri Lanka last winter.

He had a modest record during his three seasons at Essex – where he took 52 first class wickets in 29 games – but Sussex coach Mark Robinson is hopeful the move to Hove can kickstart his career.

Robinson said: “We’re hugely excited by the arrival of Tymal. He’s a player of enormous potential who is blessed with great pace and we can’t wait to see him bowl next season.”

Mills played just six games for Essex last season due to a back injury and is looking forward to making a fresh start at Hove.

He said: “I'm really pleased to be on board. As soon as Sussex came in for me, I knew it was a county that I wanted to join.

“The injuries look to be behind me now and I'm really looking forward to moving down here, getting stuck in this winter and going strong next year.”
