Shamir Fenelon made a goalscoring comeback for nine-man Albion today in a stormy 3-1 defeat for the Under-21s at Newcastle.

The striker, recalled early from a season-long loan at Rochdale due to lack of game time, gave the Seagulls a 20th minute lead with a smart finish.

But it all went wrong for Simon Ireland's side in the clash behind closed doors at United's Benton training ground as captain Glen Rea and Danny Pappoe both received red cards.

Rea handled on the line approaching half-time and Ryan Taylor, returning for the Toon from a second serious knee injury, levelled from the resulting penalty.

The ten men fell behind in the 56th minute when Taylor's corner was flicked on by Lubo Satka for Slovenian playmaker Haris Vuckic to nod in at the far post.

The deficit was stretched six minutes later by Dan Barlaser's tap-in.

Former Chelsea powerhouse Pappoe was given his marching orders on 75 minutes by ref Iain Turner following an off-the-ball incident with Argentinian Facundo Ferreyra.

Albion included two trialists up front, Pappoe's ex-Chelsea colleague Chike Kandi and West Ham's Republic of Ireland under-21 striker Kieran Sadlier. Kandi set up Fenelon's goal.

Peter Beardsley's unbeaten Newcastle side are now top of the table, while Albion remain bottom.
