Whitehawk were the victims of a smash and grab raid last night as Conference south strugglers Wealdstone escaped with a 1-0 victory.

Steven King’s Hawks had the better of the chances and dominated posssession but a resiliant Stones side held on to a precious first-half lead to seal the win.

Hawks midfielder Sergio Torres screwed a shot wide early on before the hosts went close again when Sergio Makofo conjured something out of nothing to force a finger-tip save from goalkeeper John North.

John Sullivan took two attempts to gather a long-range Luke Pigden volley after 38 minutes.

But he was beaten on the stroke of half-time when Pigden’s free-kick bounced over everyone to find a far corner.

The visitors stuck ten men behind the ball in the second half and the closest Hawks went to an equaliser was a deflected strike by Ahmed Abdulla.

Burgess Hill’s great start to the Ryman South season continued with a 3-0 victory against hosts Walton Casuals.

Victory keeps the Hillians on top of the table with a three-point lead over Faversham.

Striker Greg Luer put them ahead after 24 minutes while Joe Keehan’s 65th-minute penalty and a further effort from Lee Harding with seven minute to go put them out of sight.

Three Bridges struck twice in the last minute to earn a 2-2 draw at Whyteleafe.

Bridges trailed 2-0 after 54 minutes but Abu Touray and then Ben Godfrey netted in the final seconds to snatch a point.
