BRIGHTON has a long and proud history of sea swimming – and this photo from 1929 is one of the best we have come across.

By the looks of it, it is deep mid-winter.

There is snow on the ground and the sea has plenty of surf – but that hasn’t deterred these hardy fellows.

They must be absolutely freezing in their swimsuits.

The huge coats the three gentleman with them are wearing tell you all you need to know about how cold it is.

Doesn’t the pier behind them look great with the Palace of Fun sign.

On the theme of sea swimming, this second photo throws up plenty of questions.

Who is the woman in the swimming suit and why is she being escorted off the beach by the man with the white jumper.

She has certainly attracted a crowd.

While the first image in undoubtedly from Brighton, we are not so sure about the second.
