2009 certainly hasn't done Lewes any favours yet! Last Saturday's Trophy game against Havant fell victim to the frost along with all games in Sussex ensuring I lost £60 of refereeing! Not the greatest start to the first weekend off 2009.

Luckily, a decision was made early in the morning to avoid another Kettering style, arrive, see and go straight back home.

The rearrangement was the immediate Tuesday and I took my place in the stand alongside the 250ish others, a poor attendance for a Trophy game. The game itself was surprisingly entertaining and also, at the early stages, dominated by us! Joe Keehan's 4th minute goal was deserved for all the early pressure, his header looping into the top corner.

Luke Nightingale's retaken penalty allowed them back into the game just before half-time but it was another case of, "here we go again, another dodgy penalty". It's happened too many times for it not to be an FA conspiracy theory.

The second began quite well and we went ahead through a Michael Standing penalty. Yes, a penalty FOR us. Time to note the time and date! David Wheeler was fouled, in fairness I think his pace took him over more than the player but he was being kicked all game so it wasn't undeserved.

Elliott Charles, who has joined on loan along with fellow Barnet striker Kieran St Aimie, looked to have put us in a winning situation with a pretty smart finish. It was genuinly the first time this season I felt we were offering entertainment purely for the football we were playing.

Our former rock Ian Simpemba was marshalling the Havant defence but the new lads made him look poor but he had the last laugh when he notched to start the Havant revival. He has scored in both the games Havant have played at the Pan this season having scored the winner in pre-season.

Another former Rook, Paul Booth this time, added the equaliser to give Havant what was, in my opinion, an undeserved replay, but it was our own fault for not seeing out the game.

Following an impressive 80 minutes against Havant I was quietly confident of a victory against York but we offered little and we came away with another three goals against and still none scored in the league this year.

Saturday brings last season's FA Cup friends Mansfield to the Pan for what I think is the first time. It would be nice to get our first goals in this game, well it would be nice to get them anytime soon.
