And the festive season is over. Nil pwa, nil goals. We managed to take part in 4 of the 5 scheduled games, scoring 0 goals and conceding a few on the way! Doubt surrounded the Boro home game and the Boro (Stevenage this time though) away game, both for frozen pitches. Both survived the cold and both saw us lose!

Last time out I said Santa had forgotten where the Pan was, I genuinely just think he chose to avoid it! I saw the penalty from Priory Lane on Setanta the other night and the first thing that came into my head was “how”, followed by “oh yeah, we never get luck there!”.

The reverse fixture saw a pretty similar crowd of 2200+ come to the Pan hoping for a better footballing encounter than what was served up at the Lane. Unfortunately, this was not a game for the purists. Eastbourne's fans didn't seem to mind though. Since that game they seem to have warmed to the Pan realising it's a much better ground for creating atmosphere than the Lane. Shame we've been saying that for years ey lads!

Wilson's super sub Nathan Crabb won the game for Boro, setting up the first and scoring the second. It was a game, like Boxing Day, I felt we could have won but we struggled without our own recognised striker in the squad - we started with loan signing Josh Klein-Davies who only met his team-mates for the first upon arrival. He did all right but with just him upfront we offered little and came away with nothing. This time however I felt it was the right result. Boro offered slightly more than us and seemed to go forward more.

That game also saw the last appearance of Aswad Thomas, a bright spark for us recently. He had been here three months and the rules say he would have to sign for the rest of the season to continue with us and, at the risk of being released from Charlton, he has chosen to go back to allow a better chance of earning a new deal.

Anyway, enough of that rambling.

We faced Stevenage on Saturday in a match that saw Kevin Keehan argue with the officials about the playing surface due to an apparently rock hard goalmouth. The game went ahead nonetheless and we came out 3-0 losers. To add insult to injury we lose Klein-Davies to a one-game suspension due to two bookings, the second of which, I'm told, was extremely harsh.

This Saturday we face Havant in the Trophy which sees the return of a few old boys, Gary Holloway, Paul Booth, Ian Simpemba, Jay Conroy and, slightly longer ago, Craig Watkins. It would be great to get a win for the confidence but also the bank balance with I think £7,000 up for grabs.

Here's hoping we can get a result and something to cheer about this season - there hasn't been much.
