Last season's festive games brought us 3 Drury specials, 2 Booth classics and a Wormull goal to add. We drew 2-2 with Eastbourne (when 2-0 up with not long to go!) and stuffed FA Cup surprise package Havant 4-0.

This season however was a different story with the 1-0 defeat at Boro to a penalty even the locals were unsure about and a postponement of the Kettering game due to a frozen third of the pitch.

To be fair, the Kettering players said they would have called it off if they were the ref but they certainly weren't happy given that Roger was certain it wouldn't thaw at 8:30 that morning and would have been able to save them the journey. Still, the referee had to make the final decision and at 1:15 he called it off.

Good thing there was some sunshine or it could have been very slippery changing that fixture board to alert people to it being called off.

So back to the Boro game. Personally, I thought we could have got something out of it. Given Boro's respectable results recently (well before the Trophy game anyway) I expected the worst and before the game was just praying it wouldn't be a thrashing. However, what I saw to be quite honest was a poor game of football played out by two poor mistake riddled teams. Boro were there for the taking but lacking two forwards and Cox on the bench we lacked attacking threat and when we did get the ball forward Fenelon was completely isolated.

As I said, Boro scored from a debatable penalty - apparently Danny Cullip, who was absolutely immense in that game, pulled their player down, although some home fans admitted a bit of backing in and then a roll off the shoulder was nearer to the mark. Either way it was a penalty and to his credit Banks made a great save but the Lewes defence were thinking what they could use the last bits of turkey for as opposed to Armstrong who followed up and smashed the ball in.

After that you'd be able to count the clear cut chances on one hand, although we felt slightly aggrieved when the ball dropped from about 40ft on to the crossbar back to Tabiri with an open goal and the linesman gave a goal kick, very frustrating.

So with the Kettering game being postponed the likes of Gargan and Standing have time to recover for Boro part II. If Keehan is brave and takes a gamble then I think we can win this game. Cox and Wheeler can outrun Jenkins and Lovett all day long, it just remains to be seen if they will because as we've seen this season we can go from good football to park football in a split second.

Fingers crossed for a late present from Santa or failing that from anyone in a red a black shirt.
