After the euphoria of our victory over Oxford, I managed to forget to write a blog last week. Some would say that's a good thing, though!

Well, since my last ramble to you we've picked up an impressive four points from nine. All right, it's no title challenge form, but when you consider the lack of points we had, then four from nine is a good return.

Away at Grays I felt we did more than enough to win the game in the second half but it wasn't to be. We hit the bar, the post and even Barney got involved, drilling one just over the bar. The first half was something we tried to forget but credit where credit is due, wind-aided we certainly improved in a game which due to travelling one mile in one hour. I (along with a mini bus full of people) arrived at 3:05!

Certainly not a bad result though, 0-0 on the road would have been something I would have taken, just a shame it ended with Banks and Standing picking up knocks. Ruddy deputised well for the remaining 25 minutes and Standing's injury was in, ironically, injury time!

The biggest test of the three was yet to come, though, with a midweek trip to one of the favourites, Cambridge. The second visit to that area ended in pretty much the same way, the game ending with a constant barrage of attacks from the home team, unfortunately, Cambridge's late goal meant we came home with nothing, whereas at least we picked up a point at Histon two weeks before.

For those who made it to the ground, they reported that we were under the cosh for large periods and Cambridge deserved their win but it's encouraging to know that, despite being under pressure, we defended well for the large part. Earlier in the season we would have been three down at the break.

Forest Green sitting fifth bottom were the next team to visit the Pan and how we were coasting at the break. Joe Keehan, who for me took some well undeserved criticism early on in the season, scored two with Sam Gargan getting the other. Trust me, getting a text with “3-0 up half time” is the best thing for a County League linesman at half-time of a difficult game!

The last text I got was 3-2. No full time on that text so you can imagine what it was like for me thinking we were still playing at 3-2! More nervous than today starting driving lessons but that's another story.

Bognor in the Setanta shield tomorrow night, an important game as any as we need to keep the momentum going, get Taylor banging them in, Fenelon smashing some defenders and Ruddy, Banks, Standing, Richards and Davis fit ASAP!

There's definite signs of improvment for the Rooks: long may it continue.
