As another two fixtures go by, we are still looking for our first win. For five minutes we thought it might happen at Burton, we took the lead for the very first time in a league game this season only to end up losing 5-2. We lost Cullip and Breach in that game to what sounds like bad injuries, they will be a loss but Richards and Graves can cover.

And cover, they did. Woking away, bottom vs second bottom. Woking were in desperate need of the points and they came out with big men upfront, great, just what we needed after losing your captain at the back!

Kevin Keehan had switched the formation to a 4-5-1 with a surprise appearance for Steve Elliot. It was nice to see a real local lad on the team, someone who had come through the system at the club. He did well, as did the team. Scott Taylor’s magic goal (or so I’m told, I managed to miss it!) followed by a Rowland rocket that hit the bar put the Lewes following, an impressive 80+, in a positive mood.

As expected, Woking came out all guns blazing second half and ended up playing four up front. We got deeper and deeper and deeper but Woking just couldn’t find a way through the backline and an impressive Rickki Banks. That was, of course, until the 85th minute when a header didn’t quite reach a safe clearing point and the ball was volleyed in from 20 yards, a good finish but absolutely gutting for the visitors.

All the people agreed on the minibus that we had put in a good shift in that game and had we have had a little more luck (Rowland’s shot was the fifth consecutive game we had hit the bar!) we may have come away with more than a point.

Barrow on Saturday, in-form side who came up from the North play-offs last season and have had some impressive victories, including an opening day defeat of Oxford.

It could well be that the fans get the first win of the season, we play Eastbourne Borough fans in an, erm, “friendly” in a few weeks time. No date has been set as we are sorting a pitch at present but given the friendly rivalry between the two sets of fans it should be a good game (and naturally, an easy win for us!).

Well that’s me for this week, fingers crossed by next week I can report on a first win of the season and looking forward to the first ever live televised match the Dripping Pan has hosted, Rushden and Diamonds.
