A church is offering guided tours of its clock tower over the summer.

St Thomas a Becket in Lewes has opened bookings for tours of the church, clock and belfry on selected dates in May, June, July, August and September.

Visitors will first receive an introduction to the church followed by a guided climb up the tower where they will get to hear the 1670 clock strike noon. Ticket holders will also see the 15th century oak bell frame and the bells themselves that date back to 1566.

Reverend Ben Brown, rector of the church in Cliffe High Street, said: “The tours are an opportunity to share the rich and extraordinary history of the church with people. A church is both a historic space and building but it is also a living place, a place to worship and to explore, so the tours are a way for people to explore and also to perhaps be drawn to the riches of the church's devotional life.”

The tours will take place on May 18, June 1, 15 and 29, July 13 and 27, August 10 and 24, and September 7. Tickets are £5 or free for under 16s and available at the Lewes Tourist Information Centre.
