Two Sussex primary schools have been ranked among the UK's top 500.

Western Road Community Primary School in Southover High Street, Lewes, and The Cavendish School in Eldon Road, Eastbourne, have been named in the The Sunday Times Parent Power league table.

This table, which featured only three per cent of England's 16,783 primary schools, ranked the education providers based on their performance.

The ranking, which was also based on average scores in English, grammar and maths, saw the Lewes school come in 239th place.

Eastbourne's The Cavendish School ranked slightly lower in 369th place.

The list was released just before Tuesday, on the day over half a million families awaited confirmation of their chosen primary schools for their three and four-year-old children.

According to The Sunday Times, over 90 per cent of parents are believed to secure their first choice, however up to 45,000 children might have to settle for lower preference options.

The Sunday Times also acknowledged how grades are still lower than pre-Covid.

In the latest exams last May, just 59 per cent of students accomplished the expected level in English, grammar, and maths.

This was a significant drop from the 65 per cent in 2019.
