A young man has been killed in a car crash.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Wartling Road, Pevensey, just before 9pm yesterday.

A white Citroen C3 was travelling northbound on the road when it went into a ditch.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle – a 19-year-old man from Eastbourne – was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The road was closed for several hours while emergency services were at the scene.

Firefighters, police, ambulances and the hazardous areas response team (Hart) from Crawley were called.

His family are receiving support from specially trained officers at this time.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "We are urging anyone who may have seen the car in the area immediately before the collision to come forward.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone who captured any relevant dash cam footage, or anyone who may have stopped at the scene."
