An online programme is being offered to help combat the "mental health crisis” among young girls.

The six-week online sessions for girls aged between eight and 18 are run by not-for-profit organisation Rites for Girls, which was founded by Kim McCabe who lives in Sussex.

The organisation secured lottery funding which meant it could offer the course for a subsidised fee of £20.

The programme aims to help girls “navigate challenges and changes in their lives, build self-esteem and help improve their resilience”.

Kim described it as a "really fun and interactive course and offers support in challenging times".

She said: “We have seen a dramatic rise in self-harming, eating disorders, panic attacks and school-refusing among girls at increasingly young ages since the onset of the pandemic, and yet there is a concerning lack of effective government support and school resources available in Britain to support these young people.

"The need for solutions to this crisis has never been more urgent. The Girls’ Net programme is designed to offer fun and support for your daughter as she grows up and manages the challenges of preteen and teen life."

The course starts in April.
