Police are still at a school this afternoon after an intruder was reported on the premises.

Students were reportedly told to hide beneath their desks while staff at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (BACA) dealt with the incident at around 9.30am on Friday.

There are reports that the person had a knife and a BB gun, however this has not been confirmed by the police.

A school spokeswoman said staff took “immediate action” to ensure student safety by placing the premises into a lockdown situation.

BACA has since reopened and it is “business as usual”, however police remain on scene carrying out enquiries.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Police responded to a report at around 9.30am today to reports of an unauthorised person attempting to access the grounds of Brighton Aldridge Community Academy in Lewes Road, Brighton.

“Safeguarding procedures ensured the school was secured while officers attended and carried out a search.

“No one was located in or around the school grounds and the school was reopened a short while later.

“Enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances and officers remain at the scene at this time.”

A spokesperson for BACA previously said: "An individual who should not have been on the premises was reported to have been seen on school grounds.

"The safety of our students is our top priority and we took immediate action, ensuring the school was safe and secure, and calling for police to attend.

"The incident was dealt with swiftly and we have been given the go-ahead by police to get back to business as usual."
