A primary school has been rated good by Ofsted in their first inspection.

Kilnwood Vale Primary School, in Calvert Link, Horsham, opened in 2019 and had its first inspection in December last year.

Ofsted inspectors said the school has a "warm and welcoming" environment and students are "polite and respectful towards staff and their classmates".

The report, published last month, also said that the school creates well-established routines for students which helps them to learn "independently and collectively".

The report read: "All staff have high expectations for pupils’ academic achievement.

"The carefully considered curriculum helps all pupils, including children in the early years, to get off to a flying start to their educational journey.

"Pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, get the help they need at the right time."

Organised trips, celebrations and visiting guests were also said to have helped students learn about subjects outside of the classroom.

Students were also found to have been "expertly supported" by teachers who adapt learning to suit "individual needs".

Despite the good Ofsted report, some minor areas for improvement were still identified.

Inspectors found that the curriculum was not always fully implemented in every subject and that some teachers "do not yet have the full subject expertise to confidently teach the important knowledge".

This means they are not always able to check how student's understanding builds over time.

Inspectors said: "The school is aware of this and should continue to monitor the impact of their planned improvements to ensure that pupils’ knowledge is secure."

Headteacher Laura Burke said: "I am absolutely delighted that Ofsted has rated Kilnwood Vale Primary School as good with an outstanding early years.

"Over the two days, the inspectors saw the ‘high aspirations’ we have for all of our learners as well as the ‘well-sequenced and highly ambitious curriculum’ that we have created.

"Our relentless focus on oracy was celebrated throughout the process.

"The senior leadership team and I are thrilled that our growing school has been recognised for the strengths that we see daily and are excited to continue developing the school."

The school, which has almost 300 students, is part of the GLF Schools Multi-Academy Trust.
