Locations of Brighton Shaun the Sheep art trail revealed

A total of 42 sculptures will be on display across Brighton and Hove from this weekend as part of the Shaun by the Sea art trail.

Alongside these, over 70 “little Shauns”, painted by local schools and community groups, will be placed at well-known venues from Portslade to Newhaven.

Each of the sculptures are ewe-niquely designed, from “funky to flawless and totally wild”.

The art trail follows in the footsteps of the Snowdogs exhibition in 2016 and the Snails art trail in 2018.

Locations for some of this year’s sculptures include The Ivy Brighton in Ship Street, Sussex Cricket Ground, Jubilee Library, Churchill Square, The Grand hotel in Kings Road and the Brighton i360.

In a first for the city’s art trails, a special “roving Shaun” will be put on display in different locations across the city during the eight-week-long exhibition.

The art trail is organised by hospice charity Martlets and aims to shine a light on the life-changing impact of hospice care and raise funds to help the charity keep caring for people facing tough times.

Tanya Hunt, director of income generation at the charity, said: “We’re delighted to unveil our map, showing all the locations on our Shaun by the Sea trail.

“The trail covers the whole community Martlets serves, shining a light on the reach and impact of hospice care.

“All of the team at Martlets owe a huge debt of thanks to our sponsors, to the incredibly talented artists, to our partners and to all the hard-working staff and volunteers who have made the trail happen.

“All the money raised from Shaun by the Sea will enable Martlets to keep caring for people facing the toughest of times.”

The individually designed sculptures will be displayed around Brighton and Hove’s streets, parks and other public areas from September 9 until November 5. At the end of the exhibition, the sculptures will be auctioned off to raise money for Martlets.

The charity’s sculptures of snails for the last art trail raised more than £230,000.
