Bognor dog attack: Victim no longer in life threatening condition

The man in his 70s was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being attacked by the dogs in the incident in Lewes Close, Bognor last week.

After initial reports that his life was at risk, Sussex Police have now confirmed that the gentleman is in a “critical but stable” condition.

A police spokeswoman said: “Police are continuing to investigate a dog attack in Bognor.

“Officers received multiple reports of a man being mauled in the street by two dogs, believed to be Rottweilers, at around 9.50am on Friday, August 18.

“The man in his 70s remains in a critical, but stable condition in hospital.

“He had been walking his small dog and sustained serious injuries in the attack.”

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog out of control, while another 26-year-old woman was interviewed under caution in connection to the attack.

The man has since been released on bail.

Both Rottweilers were shot by officers to prevent any further risk to the wider public.

Sussex Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
