A lone painting is hanging in the wreckage of the fire-ravaged Royal Albion Hotel.

The picture, on an interior wall on the fourth floor, is apparently undamaged - to the surprise of passersby.

Argus Camera Club snapper Martin Brewer took a photograph of it as demolition of the hotel's west wing continues following the devastating blaze on Saturday, July 15.

The listed building on Brighton seafront is now just a skeleton.

Passersby have been fascinated by the picture. One said: "Demolition work reveals a completely unmarked picture hanging on a wall. How is this possible? Obvious answers include aliens and Haunted Painting."

Another said: "It is almost bittersweet seeing that framed picture."

Elswhere in the wreckage there are a few mirrors and some fittings that also look intact.

The demolition of the Royal Albion is expected to take another two weeks.
