A seaside bar is to accept litter in exchange for cocktails in a first-of-its-kind beach cleaning initiative.

Partygoers will be able to exchange rubbish for rum as part of a special day of litter picking on Brighton beach this month.

The initiative, run by the PADI AWARE Foundation in partnership with Kraken Rum, is aiming to clean up the beach and coincides with a dive for debris near the Brighton Palace Pier.

Ian Amos, from the foundation, said: “Since 1989, the team at PADI AWARE Foundation have removed over 2 million pieces of harmful debris from the ocean, helping to protect endangered marine species across the world.

“We’re delighted to be partnering again with The Kraken Rum in what will definitely be one of favourite cleans yet that will remove further debris from one of the UK’s most popular summer destinations.”
