A man has been pulled from water as an air ambulance landed on the beach to attend the incident.
Lifeboat crews were spotted in the water as ambulance teams also descended on the beach during a warm bank holiday afternoon on Sunday.
The air ambulance landed on the beach at around 6pm while the man was handed over to South East Coast Ambulance Service for treatment.
A coastguard spokeswoman said: Littlehampton Coastguard Rescue Team responded to a report of a male being pulled from the water at Worthing beach yesterday afternoon.
“The alarm was raised at about 5.40pm, with Sussex Police also alerted.

Air ambulance crews landed on the pebbled beach to respond to the incident before taking off and returning to base without the man.
The condition of the man is currently unclear.
Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance, Sussex Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service have been approached for comment.
