Water is returning to some homes after residents have spent days relying on bottled water.

While some homes are still waiting for supplies to return, South East Water have said that some burst water mains have now been repaired.

Homes in Mid-Sussex are now waiting to see when their water will be turned back on, with some having not had water since the weekend.

South East Water said on their website: “Supplies have returned to Cuckfield overnight. Our teams are continuing work to restore further supplies. Please continue to help us by checking your homes, business and troughs for leaks too. We are very sorry for the continued disruption.”

The water company added that the number of water mains bursts had risen by 300 per cent over the weekend.

An update on the website added that “reservoir levels have increased overnight and some customers will see their water supplies being restored”.

Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne and MP Nus Ghani have said that they were among those affected. Ms Bourne has since said that her water has returned.

Customers who are still affected can pick up bottled water supplies at a number of sites across the affected area.
