ARUNDEL Castle will host a special event ahead of its closure for the year.

Normans and Crusaders in the Keep will commemorate the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings. The event will also include highlight the history of the castle.

Visitors on October 26 and 27 will have the opportunity to interact with early Norman Knight characters and learn about their day-to-day lives. There will also be combat demonstrations, archery displays and the chance to handle replica weapons and armour.

Event coordinator, Paul Ullson of the Raven Tor Living History Group, said: “Normans and Crusaders in the Keep is an excellent opportunity for visitors to Arundel Castle to discover the history behind this magnificent building.

“Walking up the driveway, visitors see an impressive stately home and beautiful gardens, but this event allows them to experience the history that is beneath their feet. Arundel Castle went through different incarnations before becoming the structure you see today – its land has seen many thrilling historical moments.”
