DETECTIVES are investigating after a woman was raped on a beach.
Police said a black man and the 29-year-old white victim who were known to each other parked a white van at Goring Gap and then walked a short distance, across the greensward, to the beach where the woman was raped.
The pair then returned to the van and drove off.
The incident happened at about 8.30pm on Wednesday August 24.
A 42-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of rape and after being interviewed was released on bail until November while enquiries continue.
The woman did not require hospital treatment but is receiving welfare support from specially trained staff.
Detective Constable Owen Watkins appealed for witnesses to come forward.
No one else is being sought in relation to this incident.
