THE final restaurant at the £250 million Brighton Marina development has now been taken up.

The last of the seven restaurants created as part of the first phase of the major redevelopment of the marina site has now been snapped up by an operator.

Two of the new eateries, which range between 3,000 and 6,000 square metres, have already opened with Casa Brasil and TGI Friday's opening their doors in the past week.

Two more, Las Iguanas and Bella Italia, opened today while burger restaurant Five Guys and MOD Pizza will open next month.

Marina bosses hope the final restaurant will be ready to open within weeks, bringing the number of jobs created to more than 300.

Brunswick Developments' Andrew Goodall said he was not in a position to name the latest firm but promised it would be a different offering to what had already been announced, saying it will be complementary.

He said: "It’s not a national firm, they have two or three restaurants at present, but that’s not to say they won’t go national in the future.

“We are aiming to make Brighton Marina one of the best leisure destinations in the world, it will be a long road but we’re heading in the right direction.”

Construction work is already well underway for the second phase of the redevelopment which will include the construction of the county's tallest building at 40 storeys.

Work to construct the tower's watertight foundations in the waters of the marina, known as a cofferdam, is expected to run until October allowing the three year project to build the skyscraper to begin.
