RIVAL demonstrations are being organised in the wake of Brighton and Hove's vote to remain in the EU despite the referendum result.

Remain supporters have organised an "inclusive" event to help people deal with their "sorrow and anger after the referendum result".

Meanwhile - a far right group that previously planned a "no refugees" event in Brighton is now planning a pro-brexit celebration.

The Pie and Mash Squad and South Coast Resistance said they were planning their event on Saturday July 16 to "celebrate Brexit and end mass immigration."

Hundreds of people are planning to attend today's Stand Together demonstration at The Level in Brighton at 5pm.

Organiser of today's event Alice Jahanpour said: "This is about standing together and promoting unity and solidarity.

"This is not exactly a protest against the vote to leave but a lot of people have been feeling aggrieved. Particularly in Brighton and Hove 68 per cent of people voted in favour of staying, and this is about making sure people still feel welcome and working together."

The South Coast Resistance and the Pie and Mash Squad event is advertised with a picture of two hooded figures with masked faces bearing the union flag and a skull design.

Their social media pages contain repeated references to "no more refugees"

Ms Jahanpour said the imagery of the event was "exclusive and unwelcoming."

"This does look a bit worrying, a bit confrontational," she said.

"We are just saying whether you voted leave or remain it is supposed to be inclusive, things are a bit chaotic and we want other Europeans to know we are still welcoming."
