On the streets of Brighton in the run up to Valentine's Day, we met loving couples who had met at work, been set up on a blind date or swooped in on a friend's partner.

But Dave Townsend and Vicky Cook, from East Grinstead, took the prize for the most 21st Century tale of how they met: by using the smartphone dating app Tinder.

"We met on Tinder and we're proud of it," said Dave, 31.

"Well, him more so than me", replied Vicky, 30.

Their first date took place in a romantic country pub, which went better than expected.

Vicky said: "I had a couple of friends on stand-by to call me if it went terribly, but actually he turned up and he was much better looking than the photos on Tinder.

"It's a really shallow way of meeting someone but we only joked on Tinder then got to know each other for real.

"A year later and we live together so it's going really well."

Dave said: "The thing I love about her most is her great sense of humour, she laughs a lot, but then again that's only because I'm so funny."
