AN ALBION fan will be cheering for Leicester for the rest of the football season after backing them to win the Premier League at 5,000-1.

Nathaniel Whessell from Brighton put a bet on the Foxes while chatting to pals at a game in Peacehaven last summer and Claudio Ranieri’s men have responded by shocking the football universe.

They are now five points clear at the top of the league with 13 games remaining and while the Seagulls supporter’s heart might be at The Amex, his head will be at the King Power Stadium for the next few months as he stands to win £3,000.

He said: “I was down at Peacehaven watching a game and chatting to a couple of mates about who was going to win the Premier League and I just had a gut feeling it was going to be an outsider.

“So I had a little look and saw a few teams on 5,000-1 and 7,000-1 and Leicester jumped out at me.

“I only had 60p left in my online account, so I put it on them, and I wish I’d put more on now.

“But at the same time, I had absolutely no idea they would be doing as well as they are.

“It’s ridiculous how well they’re doing and I still can’t really believe what they are doing.

“I was out and about on Saturday and then the news came through they’d scored away at Man City and then again that they’d scored another one and ended up winning 3-1 away.

“That’s when I really started thinking it could happen.”

If former Albion favourite Leo Ulloa and his teammates can pull off the rags to riches fairytale, Mr Whessell has said he would buy a Leicester shirt with the numbers 5,000-1 on the back to commemorate the feat.

He is one of only 12 people to have made the bet back in August, but he is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

He said: “I’m not getting too carried away because there is still a long way to go.

“As much as I’d love it to happen, they’ve got a tricky couple of games coming up including Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday.”

The Argus asked the ultimate question of an Albion fan – Seagulls to get promoted or Leicester to win the title, and Mr Whessell said: “I would love to see The Albion go up, but I’d also like £3,000.

“So I’ll go with Leicester to win the Premier League this year and Brighton to go up next year.”
