A COUPLE are preparing to tackle a 100km walk to raise money for charity which supports blind ex-servicemen and women.

Joe MacAllister and Katie Orchin, both 28, will be walking from London to Brighton in aid of Blind Veterans UK.

The couple from Shoreham wanted to give something back following the charity’s support of Mr MacAllister’s grandfather Edward King.

Mr King served in the Army from 1945 until 1948 as part of his National Service and was based in Israel and Egypt.

He suffers from macular degeneration and started receiving help and support from the charity in 2009.

Mr MacAllister said: “Blind Veterans UK have been really kind to my grandad and have made a real difference in his life.”

The couple are hoping to complete the challenge, which takes place on July 2, in under 24 hours.

Registration is currently open with a fee of £62.50 for the 100km.

For those who do not want to walk the full distance there is also a relay option available for teams of four walking 25k each.

Teams taking part in the relay have a registration fee of £110.

The price includes lunch, dinner and breakfast at three rest stops, snacks and refreshments along the route and a free event t-shirt.
