A DOG was rescued from a house fire after the owners had left food cooking in the oven before leaving their property.

Firefighters were called to Springfield Road in Brighton at 4.12pm after a neighbour had reported smoke coming from a house and the alarm sounding.

As the crew from Preston Circus Community Fire Station entered, they spotted a small black dog in the living room.

Crew manager Alex Probyn said: “They had left something on and gone out, and they were still out when we arrived.

“I’ve got no idea what they were cooking because it was black when we got there.

“She was fine, but there was quite a lot of smoke in the house.

“We saw her as we went in and thankfully she wasn’t injured,

“She was just a bit frightened with lots of people coming through the door.”

The kitchen was damaged by smoke and the owners returned to be reunited with their pooch as the firefighters were still at the house.
