A WOMAN was killed when she fell from a bridge and was then hit by traffic leaving the road blocked for four hours last night.
The female died when she fell from a bridge above the M23 at Maidenbower and was subsequently struck by traffic below.
The incident happened at around 8.35pm, close to the motorway's junction 10A.
The victim, believed to be from Crawley, fell onto the southbound carriageway beneath the Turners Hill Road flyover.
She was later pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner has been informed.
Traffic on the M23 and surrounding roads was severely disrupted, and the southbound carriageway of the motorway did not re-open until 1am.
