AFTER years of losses Piers Morgan’s star-studded squad finally managed to beat a set of village cricketers in the annual celebrity charity match.
Former internationals Adam Hollioake and Tino Best shone alongside the greatest ever spin bowler Shane Warne as they took on Newick Cricket Club on Monday.
The star of the show was Best, who used all of his Caribbean class to smash 56 not out in just 19 balls in a sparkling innings which included six sixes.
Newick old boy and former Daily Mirror editor Piers Morgan dubbed his team the best in the history of the fixture, and he was proved right, even if he was clean bowled himself trying to cuff a ball to the boundary.
In 2013, the villagers managed an extraordinary win against a team consisting of Caribbean greats Brian Lara, who scored 11,953 test runs in his career, and exclusive 500-wicket club member Courtney Walsh.
Again, Morgan’s contribution was minimal, as he was bowled for a duck.
