Later that evening, at about 8pm, police received a call from a concerned member of the public about an altercation involving a person thought to be the driver of a Renault van in Penrith Way, Eastbourne.
Officers attended and arrested Mark Hornblow, 40, of Kensington Way, Polegate.
He was charged with drink-driving and bailed to appear at Hastings Magistrates' Court on September 2.
