A MAN has been found dead at a beauty spot.

Believed to be that of a man in his 20s from Brighton, the body was discovered at the bottom of cliffs at Seven Sisters Country Park yesterday in the Cuckmere Haven area.

The death is being investigated by the coroner's officer but at this stage it is not being treated as suspicious.

The news follows reports of a man "walking purposefully" around the top of Beachy Head in the early hours of yesterday. Police were called after someone saw a man looking suspicious near the cliff edge but could not trace him by the time they arrived.

Coastguard and lifeboat crews from Eastbourne searched the shoreline and cliff base after sunrise but found nothing.

It was only afterwards that another lifeboat crew found the body at about 11.30am.

Police say they are still determining the man's movements in the hours before his death, to see if there is a link, and he is not expected to be formally identified until next week.
