More than 150 people gathered on Brighton beach this morning for The Big Clean Up.
Our campaign in partnership with Brighton and Hove City Council helped shift all manner of objects left behind after another scorching weekend for tourists.
After a preliminary sweep by Cityclean staff, our army got to work.
And they found a few frights: shards of glass were common, as were lengths of netting and wire.
The leftovers ranged from bottle caps and cigarette ends to a pair of handcuffs.
But the most startling find was not one but two bags of drugs.
One was believed to be cocaine while the other was a brown powder – both were in small sealable plastic bags and disposed of.
Tony Knott and Kay McLeish were both on the beach to help out.
Ms McLeish said: “Around the beach areas people chuck huge amounts of rubbish.
“The council can’t pick it all because they don’t have enough staff.
Mr Knott added: “It’s a great way to get your 10,000 steps a day.”
