PARTS of Sussex are bracing themselves for high winds this morning.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for high winds which are expected to reach 50mph inland and 60mph in coastal areas.

People being warned the gusts may cause minor damage to trees and travelling may be difficult for high sided and towing vehicles.

A Met Office spokesman said: “A rather deep and complex area of low pressure will bring windy conditions widely on Tuesday but these winds will be strongest near the south coast in the morning.

“Such winds would be quite normal in winter but rather less so, though not exceptional, in May.

“With trees well into leaf now and some extra holiday traffic around, some minor impacts are likely.”
